Meanwhile, recent studies indicate it’s a good time to be in the home improvement industry. Earlier this year, the Joint Center for Housing Studies (JCHS) released an in-depth study on the state of the remodeling market in the U.S. The study, titled “Emerging Trends in the Remodeling Market,” stated that the home improvement industry has been slowly but steadily repositioning itself in recent years. At the same time, homeowners are recovering their consumer confidence. More of them are engaging in projects that focus on making their homes better.
According to the report, spending on improvement, repair and maintenance projects jumped from $281 billion in 2011 to $298 billion in 2013. What’s more, JCHS suggests that this number could easily reach a record high this year.
Compared with other sectors of the housing market, spending on replacement projects has been generally stable over the years. In 2013, roofing, siding, window and door replacements made up 20% of total homeowner expenditures.
This development had a significant positive impact on contractors as well. In a survey released by Houzz, a majority of home remodeling professionals reported revenue increases and positive growth rates in 2014. Many are also looking forward to an increase in business. In fact, over 80% of professionals surveyed said they’re anticipating growth in gross revenue and profit in 2015.
