Bay and bow windows are essentially the same in style in that they are both made up of several smaller windows but they are different in that bay windows feature three of these smaller windows while bow windows have four or five. Because of the number of smaller windows they have, bay windows are angular in shape while bow windows are more curved.

Panoramic View

Because of the way they project past your home’s outside walls, bay and bow windows provide a larger, wider view of the outdoors, which can be particularly dramatic if the window is installed in an upper floor. As the window is not flat, areas that would not normally be visible from a standard window become visible through a bay or bow window.

Increased Space

In addition to providing a wider view, the way the windows project past the home’s walls creates a feeling of increased space in the room where one is installed. The actual square footage of the space increase may not be much (just enough for a window seat usually), but that feeling of increased space, coupled with the wider view, can have a tremendous impact on the look and feel of a room.

More Sunlight

Because bay and bow windows are made up of several windows, they offer more opportunities for sunlight to enter a home. This makes them great for anyone looking to take advantage of daylighting or simply want to open up a room and make it feel more inviting. For illumination purposes, bay and bow windows are particularly useful during the long winter months when natural light is scarce.

Improved Ventilation

Bay and bow windows are great for increasing ventilation in an area. The smaller windows can be opened, letting in air from different directions. This greatly increases the amount of air flowing through the windows to improve air circulation in the home.
